Terms of Service
Last updated 3 August 2026
In short: the demo is free, offered as-is, and may change or disappear without notice. Browsing it gives you no licence to the software — that is a separate thing, covered below.
1. Who we are, and what this covers
Plotlas is provided by Wahl Analytics ("we", "us", "our"), an
eenmanszaak (sole proprietorship) registered in the Netherlands.

These Terms cover your use of:
- plotlas.com — this site, and
- app.plotlas.com — our free, public, read-only demo.
They do not cover the Plotlas software — the code you could self-host — which is governed by the licence in section 4. Browsing the demo and running the software are two different things with two different rulebooks.
2. The demo is offered as-is
app.plotlas.com demonstrates the software using an example collection, and comes with:
- No uptime guarantee and no service level. We may take it down, slow it down or change it without notice.
- No warranty of availability, accuracy or fitness for any particular purpose.
- No promise of permanence. The content, the layouts or the demo itself may be changed, reset or withdrawn at any time. It exists to show what the software does, not to serve as a stable archive.
3. Acceptable use
You agree not to:
- Use the demo for any unlawful purpose.
- Attempt to bypass rate limiting, security controls or access controls.
- Systematically scrape, bulk-download or mirror the demo's content or infrastructure beyond ordinary interactive browsing.
- Interfere with or disrupt the demo, Cloudflare's network or our server — including denial-of-service activity, injection attempts and similar abuse.
- Use the Plotlas name or branding to imply an endorsement, partnership or affiliation we have not agreed to in writing.
We may block, rate-limit or otherwise restrict access, at our discretion, for anyone we reasonably believe is breaking these rules.
4. The software licence
The Plotlas source code is source-available, not open source in the OSI sense. It is licensed under the PolyForm Noncommercial License 1.0.0. In outline:
- Noncommercial use is permitted — expressly including personal research, experimentation, study and hobby projects, and use by any charitable organisation, educational institution, public research organisation or government body, whatever its funding source.
- Commercial use requires a separate licence. Write to licensing@plotlas.com.
- The licence also grants a limited patent licence, permits redistribution and modification for permitted purposes provided the notices travel with it, ends automatically after a 32-day cure period if breached, and disclaims all warranties.
Browsing the demo grants you no licence to the software. The licence matters only once you obtain, self-host or modify the source. Nothing here grants any right to the Plotlas name or logo beyond accurately referring to the software.
5. Third-party imagery in the demo
The demo displays works from the Rijksmuseum, Amsterdam, which are in the public domain under CC0. We credit them as "Images: Rijksmuseum, Amsterdam". Their appearance here does not imply the Rijksmuseum endorses Plotlas. The imagery remains theirs; we claim no rights in it.
6. Intellectual property
Apart from that imagery and the software licence in section 4, the design, text and branding of plotlas.com and app.plotlas.com remain ours or our licensors'.
7. No warranties
To the fullest extent the law allows, the demo and this site are provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind — express, implied or statutory — including implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose and non-infringement.
8. Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent the law allows, we are not liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive damages, or for any loss of data, arising from your use of or inability to use the demo or this site.
Nothing here excludes liability that cannot be excluded under Dutch law — including liability for intent (opzet) or gross negligence (grove schuld), or for death or personal injury caused by our negligence.
9. Governing law
These Terms are governed by the law of the Netherlands. Any dispute goes to the competent Dutch court, without prejudice to any mandatory consumer-protection rights you may have under the law of your own country of residence if you qualify as a consumer under EU law.
10. Changes
We may update these Terms; the date at the top will change with them. Continuing to use the demo after an update means you accept the revised version.
